Question 5: Base Time Determination

Base time is the amount of time a typical student needs to complete the assessment, based on prior student performance. It helps distinguish the time needed to complete the assessment from any additional time provided to students.

Example: Students receive 70 minutes for an exam. Blackboard data show that most students finish in 33 minutes. The base time is 33 minutes, while the standard time is 70 minutes.

Question 7: Standard Time Provided

Standard time is the total time available to all students when taking the assessment. Standard time serves as the baseline for accommodation decisions.

Example: An instructor designs a quiz expected to take 30 minutes but allows all students 60 minutes. The base time is 30 minutes, but the standard time is 60 minutes because that is the actual testing condition experienced by all students.
